Kedutaan Besar Jepang di Indonesia dan Konsulatnya di Surabaya, Medan dan Makassar setiap tahun melaksanakan pendaftaran dan penyeleksian bagi para peminat beasiswa Monbukagakusho. Adapun program-program yang ditawarkan kepada siswa Indonesia adalah Program Research Student bagi lulusan perguruan tinggi, Undergraduate, College of Technology dan Professional Training College bagi lulusan SLTA dan Japanese Studies bagi mahasiswa program studi Jepang serta Teacher Training bagi guru

The scholarship grantees shall take a preparatory course in the Japanese language and other subjects for approximately 7 months at the Japan Foundation Japanese-Language Institute, Kansai , situated in Osaka, Japan. Grantees shall live in the provided dormitory through the Program. The preparatory course is developed for people who have never learned Japanese language before.
